Obama breaks the law: Without notifying Congress, Obama releases 5 of the most dangerous Taliban commanders in exchange for American POW who deserted his post and apparently converted to Islam/taught bomb-making skills to his captors.

Get ready for one of the most twisted stories to come out of Obama’s presidency– one that resembles the plot to Showtime’s “Homeland” series.

Preface

“A captured American soldier is training Taliban fighters bomb-making and ambush skills, according to one of his captors and Afghan intelligence officials… The 24-year-old has converted to Islam and now has the Muslim name Abdullah, one of his captors told The Sunday Times… A Taliban deputy district commander in Paktika, who called himself Haji Nadeem, told the newspaper that Bergdahl taught him how to dismantle a mobile phone and turn it into a remote control for a roadside bomb.  Nadeem claimed he also received basic ambush training from the U.S. soldier… Afghan intelligence officials also believe that Bergdahl is ‘cooperating with the Taliban’ and is acting as adviser to fighters at a base in the tribal area of Pakistan… Nadeem also shed some light on how Bergdahl was captured.  After the serviceman left his post in Paktika’s Yahya Khel district with an Afghan soldier he was spotted entering a nearby village.” 

No, we’re not talking about Nicholas Brody from the “Homeland” TV show (an American POW who converted to Islam and became a terrorist, before being ‘rescued’ by the U.S., receiving a hero’s welcome, and secretly plotting against America as he ran for political office).

This is real life: Private Bowe Bergdahl, who went AWOL in 2009 (and could be charged with desertion), converted to Islam and taught bomb-making/ambush skills to his jihadist/terrorist captors.

Three days before Private Bowe Bergdahl went AWOL, he e-mailed his parents the following statement: ““I am ashamed to be an American. And the title of US soldier is just the lie of fools… I am sorry for everything. The horror that is America is disgusting.”

Obama jeopardizes U.S. national security by releasing the high-risk “Gitmo 5″ in exchange for Private Bowe Bergdahl

Now, “President Obama has been accused of violating U.S. laws by approving a prisoner exchange of five Guantanamo detainees for the release of America’s only prisoner of war… John McCain welcomed the release of soldier Bowe Bergdahl, who was held for five years by [Islamists], but said the men being freed had ‘the blood of Americans on their hands’. The five Afghans are among the most senior members of the Taliban being held at the controversial camp, and include one who had direct ties to Osama bin Laden.”

Here is the backstory, which is another example of Obama’s oh-so-illustrious “diplomacy” efforts: “The Taliban has long demanded that the “Gitmo 5” be released in order for peace talks to begin in earnest. The Obama administration has desperately sought to engage the Taliban as American forces are drawn down in Afghanistan, but those talks have gone nowhere to this point.  At first, the administration set preconditions for the talks, including that the Taliban break its relationship with al Qaeda. When it became clear that this was a non-starter, the administration decided to make the Taliban’s desired break with al Qaeda a goal, and no longer a precondition, for its diplomacy.”

Obama’s unilateral release of the “Gitmo 5″ (who are responsible for thousands of deaths) is a huge threat to U.S. national security: “Two of the five have been wanted by the UN for war crimes. And because of their prowess, Joint Task Force-Guantanamo (JTF-GTMO) deemed all five of them “high” risks to the U.S. and its allies.“  Also, keep in mind the statistic that 20% of released Gitmo detainees have returned to terrorism.

Obama has negotiated with terrorists.

In addition to releasing dangerous jihadists/terrorists who will undoubtedly harm the U.S. and its allies in the future, Obama has broken a long-standing U.S. policy against negotiating with terrorists: “… some raised the larger question of whether it is sound policy for the United States to have, in the words of House Intelligence Committee Chairman Mike Rogers (R-Mich.), “negotiated with terrorists.”  Rogers said the action marked a “fundamental shift in U.S. policy.””  And Mullah Omar, the head of the Taliban, has now declared a “great victory” over the United States.

Obama has violated federal law–  he simply does not care about the separation of powers or the American system of checks and balances.

And it just keeps getting worse: Obama violated federal law by unilaterally releasing the Gitmo 5:  “Top Republicans on the Senate and House armed services committees went so far as to accuse President Obama of having broken the law, which requires the administration to notify Congress before any transfers from Guantanamo are carried out.  “Trading five senior Taliban leaders from detention in Guantanamo Bay for Bergdahl’s release may have consequences for the rest of our forces and all Americans. Our terrorist adversaries now have a strong incentive to capture Americans. That incentive will put our forces in Afghanistan and around the world at even greater risk,” House Armed Services Committee Chairman Howard P. McKeon (R-Calif.) and the ranking Republican on the Senate Armed Services Committee, James M. Inhofe (Okla.), said in a joint statement. Lawmakers were not notified of the Guantanamo detainees’ transfer until after it occurred. The law requires the defense secretary to notify relevant congressional committees at least 30 days before making any transfers of prisoners, to explain the reason and to provide assurances that those released would not be in a position to reengage in activities that could threaten the United States or its interests.”

UPDATE #1:  This story has quickly become even more twisted: “The father of the U.S. soldier released in a prisoner swap with the Taliban in Afghanistan on Saturday ended a White House news conference praising Allah with the most frequently used phrase in the Quran and questions continue to build over the wisdom – and legality – of the trade.  Appearing with President Obama in a brief Rose Garden event, Robert Bergdahl, the father of Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, recited “Bismillah ir-Rahman ir-Rahm,” according to the Daily Caller. In English, that means, “In the name of Allah, most Gracious, most Compassionate.” When he finished reciting, the president hugged him.   Bergdahl’s words echoed the Taliban’s official reaction to the prisoner swap. In a statement, the group that has been at war with the United States since 2001 announced that five of its members who had been held at the American prison at Guantanamo Bay prison had been released, “due to the benevolence of Allah Almighty and the sacrifices of the heroic and courageous Mujahadin of the Islamic Emirate.”   Bergdahl’s use of a Muslim prayer and the Taliban’s portrayal of it as a clear victory for their movement – Taliban leader Mullah Omar on Sunday called the release from Gitmo a “big win” in the Pakistani news outlet Dawn.com – is sure to increase the controversy around Obama’s prisoner swap, helped by a tweet posted to Berdahl’s Twitter account last week vowing to work for the release of the rest of the prisoners at the prison. (That tweet has been deleted.)”  Did we just trade 5 Taliban for a Taliban?

UPDATE #2:   “Not everyone is welcoming Bowe Bergdahl home with open arms. Some of the men who served with the Taliban POW believe that he deserted his post. And they say six American soldiers died because of his actions…  ‘Bowe Bergdahl deserted during a time of war and his fellow Americans lost their lives searching for him,’ former Sergeant Matt Vierkant told CNN.'”  Here is a specific account of the 6 American soldiers who died searching for Bergdahl: “Our battalion suffered six fatalities in a three-week period. On August 18, an IED killed Private First Class Morris Walker and Staff Sergeant Clayton Bowen during a reconnaissance mission. On August 26, while conducting a search for a Taliban shadow sub-governor supposedly affiliated with Bergdahl’s captors, Staff Sergeant Kurt Curtiss was shot in the face and killed. On September 4, during a patrol to a village near the area in which Bergdahl vanished, an insurgent ambush killed Second Lieutenant Darryn Andrews and gravely wounded Private First Class Matthew Martinek, who died of his wounds a week later. On September 5, while conducting a foot movement toward a village also thought affiliated with Bergdahl’s captors, Staff Sergeant Michael Murphrey stepped on an improvised land mine.
